Done for a school project, I slowly picked up using Unreal Engine to create beautiful environments. Being my first time using UE4, I learnt many valuable skills from how to navigate the software to creating game environments that tells a story.

Not only is it meant to be aesthetically pleasing, the environment is meant to tell a story and invoke feelings within the player.

Process
After creating a reference board, I started planning the level design through sketching. As level design and the environment is closely linked, I sketched up a rough level design for the third person environment.

I proceeded to block out the rough shape and layout in Autodesk Maya, then imported it into Unreal Engine 4. Unreal Engine 4 allowed me to use its template to control a third person character within the blocking, letting me test out the level for any adjustments.

Using Unreal Engine's shader system, I took some assets from the Unreal Engine marketplace and spliced them together to create different shaders that were more suited for my environment.

After setting up the final touches, the lighting and the props, the targeted mood and feeling was just right what I wanted it to be.
Putting everything together presented a beautiful environment which evokes a sense of danger and thriller from the dimly lit forest.
The skulls proposed a sense of danger within the player, letting them know that these grounds are dangerous.
