LOST IN TIME

Role:
Game Designer & Level Designer

Lost in Time is a School-Based, Client project done in my final semester in Singapore Polytechnic.

It is a 3D isometric puzzle platformer designed for the client, Ednovation Pte Ltd, with the purpose of educating kindergarteners between aged 5-6 basic coding and logic design.

It was developed from November 2023 to March 2023, by Team &ever, a six person team. The total production time took about 5 months.

I contributed in this project as the sole game designer, as well as the sole level designer.

My responsibilities included game mechanic conceptualization, level design, UI/UX design, playtesting and game design.

Concept

We were tasked to come up with a game for Ednovation Pte Ltd, with the purpose of educating preschoolers basic logic design and coding skills.

With this in mind, my team started to conceptualize a few ideas.

Prototype

After our client agreed on our concept, we quickly moved on to the prototyping phase.

Our team quickly created a build with the main mechanics, and art assets with it.

Level Design

As the Game and Level Designer, I created level designs of 5 levels with 12 tutorials, each with annotations and notes to them.

Game Flow

I also had the main task of creating game flow for our game. It was crucial for the game designer to effectively communicate the game and screen to screen flow to the technical team.

UI/UX Design

In addition to the game flow, I created screen-to-screen UI wireframes to plan ahead for the technical team to be able to implement into the game build.

What I would have done better

For this particular project, I was the sole game and level designer, which placed a lot of responsibilities on my end.

Given the time and chance, I would like to improve on my work by focusing more on the tutorial planning.

Conclusion

This project being a client-based project, I had to struggle between making this game a fun game, an educational game, and a understandable software for preschoolers. This was certainly not a easy task, but in conclusion this was a very unforgettable experience for me as a aspiring game designer.
